Avatar 4 is/isn’t happening!

If you were already sick to your teeth of The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises coverage before they had even reached cinemas this year, it looks as though you’ll have upchucked to Pandora by the time Avatar 2 has even started filming.

Having already announced that a second and third film will wrap up the characters and story introduced in the 2009 original, James Cameron has now decided that he also has an idea for a prequel. Speaking to MTV, he explained:

“I haven’t really put pen to paper on it, but basically it goes back to the early expeditions of Pandora, and kind of what went wrong with the humans and the Na’vi and what that was like to be an explorer and living in that world.”

As such, don’t expect to see the Avatar prequel any time soon — if at all. Just last week Jon Landau shot down rumours that there was going to be a fourth film in the series, with current plans only covering two films which are going to be shot back to back. Cameron clearly has other ideas.

Are you excited about the prospect of another Avatar movie?  How about another three?
