Ben Affleck to join The Great Gatsby?

OK, so when last we left this story, Baz Luhrmann had just announced that he planned to film his The Great Gatsby adaptation in (EYE POPPING) 3D. And the world let out a little sadness weep. But considering the strong decisions up to that point (casting Leo Di Caprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire as Gatsby, Daisy and Nick respectively) we were still tentatively excited about the project. Now, with news that Ben Affleck may join the cast as Daisy’s millionaire husband Tom Buchanan, we just gosh darn don’t know what to think anymore.

There’s no denying that Affleck is a solid writer and director – you don’t just find The Town, Gone Baby Gone or Good Will Hunting in a bit of an old tissue, you know – but as an actor he’s still yet to really prove himself. Is he up for the challenge of performing alongside the likes of Carey Mulligan and Leo “WATCH ME DO ACTING, PUNY WORLD” DiCaprio? Well, Luhrmann apparently thinks so, and that’s enough for us. Just.

Can Luhrmann do the glorious Great Gatsby justice? Let us know what you think…
