De Niro to preside over Cannes jury

Robert De Niro, co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, has been announced as President of the powerful 9-man jury at the 64th Cannes Film Festival.

The actor, who has presumably been chosen because there is absolutely no chance of any of his recent work making it to the festival, will have significant input into the eventual winner of crucial prizes including the Palme d’Or.

Two films starring De Niro, Taxi Driver (1976) and The Mission (1986), have previously won the Palme d’Or, which was most recently awarded to Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. We’ll have to wait a little while longer for this year’s official selection, but at least we can rule out Little Fockers
