First trailer for A Dangerous Method now online

Combining the skills of David Cronenburg, Viggo Mortensen, Michael Fassbender and the chin of Keira Knightley, we’ve been looking forward to A Dangerous Method for a while now. The true story of the rivalry between Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, and the woman who inspired some of their most important discoveries, it looks set to be one of the most interesting films of 2012. The first trailer is up, and it’s just made us all the more eager…

Keira Knightley plays Sabina Spielrein, a Jewish-Polish patient whose strange affliction – an obsession with paternal punishment – leads her to Jung (Fassbender) for treatment. As he slowly becomes obsessed with the young woman, he decides to try Freudian techniques in order to cure her, and the outcome is unlike anything either doctor ever expected. Watch and learn, psychology-humpers:

Now, we’ve learnt from experience (read: Never Let Me Go) that though Keira does exceedingly well in soft focus pans across beaches, when roles get a little more emotionally tricky she tends to fall apart. Will history repeat itself in A Dangerous Method? We’ve got a while to wait to find out, but we’re gonna go with YES YES WHY DID YOU CAST HER YES.
