Independence Day 3D Canned. Trilogy moving forward

Independence Day was set for a post-conversion 3D release sometime in 2013, but Fox has realised how awful an idea this is and scrapped the project. The 1996 blockbuster hit, written in a weekend by Roland Emmerich, was one of the biggest films of the 90s, and there are reports that the Independence Day sequels (yes, you read that correctly. 2 sequels to Independence Day) are moving forward. This news was not enough to entice Fox to re-release the 16 year old Independence Day with its ancient CGI and dodgy script.

Saying that, we all love Independence Day, don’t we? Despite everything, despite Randy Quaid, if Independence Day is on TV, we’re watching it. A modern day 3D re-release would have done no favours for our fond memories of the film, so it’s probably all for the best. How rare is it that Fox cancelling something is a good idea? We will never -EVER- forgive the executive who canned Firefly. It was the greatest show ever made. What were we talking about? Oh right, Independence Day.

We’d like to speculate on what the Independence Day sequels will contain, but really, does anyone care? Will Smith. Jeff Goldblum. Bill Pullman. Rinse, repeat. There’s always the possibility Roland Emmerich will get all environmental on us again. Here’s our bet for the titles:

Independence Day 2: The Day After Independence Day
Independence Day 3: The Day After The Day After Independence Day

It looks like we can’t have everything we want in life. The Independence Day trilogy is happening and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop it. In the words of our generation, Roland Emmerich, UP YOOOOOOURS!

Anyone excited for an Independence Day trilogy? No? Forget we asked.
