Michel Hazanavicius closes in on Oscar with a prophetic DGA win

The Directors Guild of America last night awarded its Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film award to Michel Hazanavicius, director of The Artist.

The 64th DGA Awards also honoured Project Nim director James Marsh in its Documentary category, as well as various directors of adverts and things (they’re all here if you care).

Following The Artist‘s successes at the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards and London Film Critics’ Circle, this win lends substantial weight to its Oscar nominations – particularly considering that the winner of the top DGA prize has gone on to win the corresponding Academy Award on 57 of the 63 occasions since its inception.
