Patty Jenkins leaves Thor 2

Less than two months after she was controversially hired as the director of Thor 2, Patty Jenkins has left the project due to that old favourite ‘creative differences’.

The director of Monster and precious little else was due to take over from Shakespearean veteran Kenneth Branagh, who led Thor to a worldwide gross of $448m and introduced Anthony Hopkins to his all-time favourite accessory: the golden eyepatch.

Marvel are reportedly scrambling to find a replacement for Jenkins, and no wonder – although Thor 2‘s original release date of July 26, 2013 has now been axed, the new date (November 15) gives whoever ends up in the hot seat less than four months of extra time. Thor required five months of principal photography and took a further eleven months to hit the cinema – assuming everything will take a bit longer with the inevitably bigger and brassier sequel, we’d say Chris Hemsworth needs to be hammering away by early summer 2012 if Thor 2 has any chance of being released on schedule.
