Phoenix negotiates comeback

Joaquin Phoenix is reportedly in talks to resume his career as a relatively normal actor, after the infamous two-year period in which he semi-successfully convinced the world that he was giving up his Hollywood career to become a rapper. The entire story turned out to be a phenomenally well-planned piece of publicity for mockumentary I’m Still Here (dir. Casey Affleck), but since its release last autumn Phoenix has shown no interest in returning to cinema in a more conventional capacity.

Well, no longer. Rumour has it that Phoenix is considering the starring role in an upcoming religious drama directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood), in which he would play an intellectual alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman’s “alcoholic drifter” character. That’s all we have for now, but it’s quite enough to get us excited. Watch this space…
