Polanski film nominated for 7 European Film Awards

Five months after escaping extradition to the USA, Roman Polanski could be in the running for a pretty nifty Christmas present – his latest film The Ghost has picked up nominations in seven out of nine categories at this year’s European Film Awards, including top nods Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for Ewan McGregor, who happily keeps his bloody American accent under wraps this time round.

The Ghost (or The Ghost Writer to American audiences) has also been nominated for awards for Best Editor, Screenwriter, Production Designer and Composer, but Polanski’s eyes will doubtless be set on the hallowed prize of joining Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Pedro Almodóvar in the category of Best Directors. The only trouble is that this year’s awards are to be held in Estonia, a country with a long-standing extradition treaty with the USA. Let’s hope they resist the temptation…
