The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug first poster!

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is getting its first trailer tomorrow, but in the meantime we’ve got a rather imposing poster for you to feast your eyes on. Impressive and imposing, and without a dwarf or deus ex Gandalf in sight, this cheery scroll sees the start of the long media campaign for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which is set for cinemas this December. Look, you can see the desolation in the doorway! Exciting!

As ever, click to embiggen:

A thing of beauty, isn’t she? Poor little Martin Freeman looks rather insignificant in the suspiciously warm glow of Belegost. Although The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey received rather mixed reviews, we here at Best For Film rather enjoyed it, and eagerly await The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Hopefully the arrival of Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular and as-of-yet unrevealed Smaug can tempt the naysayers back to the franchise.

We’ll be rummaging for all the news straight out of Thorin Oakenshield’s beard, stay tuned for Middle Earth’s first trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug sometime in the next 36 hours!

What do you think of the first poster for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug? Did you enjoy The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey?
